    Description

This is a wonderful very old wooden weathervane in the form of a Indian. The wooden vane is worn but still retains an wonderful look. The iron mounts are very old and pitted from weather. The post is original and has been attached to a heavy wooden block for display. The headdress with the hatchet is an old design for an Indian and is not a common form in modern times. At first we thought this might be a witch but we found this form in another wooden carved piece from Pennsylvania, see last photo.
Found in a folk art collection in Philadelphia this vane is from the very early 1900's or late 1800's.
The weathervane on the stand is 72" tall the witch is 35" tall x 15" wide x 1 3/4" thick.
