Decorative Monkey Pod Bowl

Description

Monkey Pod (aka Suar Wood, Acacia and Raintree) is one of those woods about which you never really know what you are going to get until you cut into it. This bowl has all of the most desirable traits of Monkey Pod. Viewed from one angle you will see very dark brown grain swirling. Viewed from the opposite angle and the dark brown all but disappears.
Finished with Carnauba wax this bowl has a very high luster and shine. It is not liquid safe though and should be cared for accordingly.
Measuring 9 inches in diameter, this bowl is truly a work of art.

So named for the spiral-shaped fruit pods which the tree bears. Outside of Hawaii, one of the most common names for the species is Raintree, which is due to the leaves’ tendency to fold up at night or during periods of rainfall, allowing rain to pass through its broad canopy to the vegetation below."
