    CALIFORNIA
    GOLD QUARTZ
    SPECIMEN
    Gold from the
    Mother Lode
    H
ere's another species of gold ore for your gratification. Check out the greyish, slightly-transparent quartz specked with some unidentified, peppery black mineral and gold. Particles of Au are visible scattered around much of the outer surface of the rock. My prices aren't based upon how much gold is contained in these authentic specimens but on the fact that it's there. If you know gold and it's origins, you will understand this.
So it's not a good investment for bullion-hunters, but if you like gold in it's most natural, elemental state, this is highly collectible.

he's a bumpy ride through the Mother Lode's golden realm. We're talking mostly about the Sierra Nevada Mtns., where much of California's wealth and history was originally derived. Some men became rich during the gold rush. "All the gold in California is buried in a bank in Beverly Hills in somebody else's name." Larry Gatlin. Most of those who actually prospered weren't the miners, however, they were the merchants, the saloon-keeps, the dance-hall girls, the cheats, swindlers, gamblers, and bankers. Truth be told, the vast majority of gold diggers who came looking to make their fortunes in the hills barely made beans.
Much of the 'so-called' specimen advertised on Ebay through the years shows what is actually Fool's Gold. Sulphide ore, lousy with pyrite, may assay gold, but it's hard finding ore so rich the gold is visible to the naked eye. I think collectors will be pleased with this stone. I've attached an affordable price that shouldn't break the bank. If you're looking for out-of-the-ordinary, bona-fide gold quartz specimen, this neat piece fills the bill.
I've purchased rocks on Ebay which were advertised as gold quartz specimen. Having been at this business for a while, I wasn't really surprised to find the 'alleged gold' was only mica, or Fool's Gold. I sent those rocks back.

ith regards to my gold quartz parcels, I only deal in specimens with VG (visible gold), not minerals or substances that
    look like
they might contain gold or that
    assay
    gold.
I think most of us interested in oro (Atomic symbol Au) prefer to see authentic, native gold in their specimens; gold that was put there naturally by geological forces, not by some man's hand. It's an aesthetic we share and that's what I sell - authentic, natural, gold quartz (with VG visible gold).

For those who know the ups and downs of the precious metals market, this is a heck of a deal. Buy it and if the market drops dramatically in the next 2 weeks, you can sell it right back for what you paid for it. That's a pretty cool insurance policy for precious metal buyers. I think most specimen buyers, however, are more interested in these rocks for their intrinsic beauty and collectibility than they are their gold content
    OLD WOMAN DIGGINGS
These were hungry diggins' indeed, but since it was only a stone's throw from Quartzsite on my Trail 90, the red-beds and arroyos of the Old Woman district proved irresistible. From my base camp north of town, the bumpy ride out to the north-eastern fringes of the Dome Rock Mtns. was usually fun. I only crashed once. Most days produced enough gold to fit in a gnat's eye. One might at least say they didn't get skunked. During the course of a decade, the scant thimble-full of gold I recovered from these diggings with metal detectors and dry-washers (about 1 oz in 10 years of searching) was probably representative in terms of how well the 'old-timers' had fared years earlier. In any day and age, I have absolutely no idea how anyone could ever have made wages in this part of that mountain range. Unlike myself, earlier miners probably had the good sense to leave and dig elsewhere. In defense of the Old Woman District, I'll say this. "It was only a stone's throw away."
