clean, shiny and oil free pieces in high quality argon flooded taper joint glass bottle to prevent oxidation
of this very air sensitive metal. This is the only method (except glass ampoule and metal can sealing) to keep the metal shiny for long time. Our pre-cleaned material can be used for lab right from the bottle or you can just keep it closed for a perfect display sample.
All kind of plastic vacuum packaging will fail since this does not build a safe barrier for water vapour. Plastic sealed lanthanum will first tarnish black (after some hours) and later white (after a few days) which makes cleaning the surface
a full time job.
Please note: Rare earth metals and compounds are getting rare and much more expensive from week to week and supply is getting harder. If you plan to store a larger amount of rare earth metals think of the best possible storage method to avoid loss of material and value.

Discovered in 1839 by C.G. Mosander in Stockholm, Sweden. Lanthanum is a soft, ductile, white metal which oxidises rapidly in air. It is one of the most reactive of the lanthanide group of elements, reacting with water to produce hydrogen gas. It has an abundance in the earth's crust of 32 ppm. At very low temperatures, lanthanum is super conducting (at 6K). It is used to manufacture special grades of optical glass which have specific refractive properties. Lanthanum can also be used in flints, and La3+ is used as a biological tracer for Ca2+. Radioactive isotopes of lanthanum have been tested for the treatment of cancer.
