Description
Here is a very rich specimen of silver ore from the Reese River Mining District in Lander county scattered with prized ruby silvers, primarily proustite and pyrargyrite. Even though the specimen is small, its very rich with all freshly broken sides displaying silver sulfosalts! Some of the proustite like in the first photo are tiny perfect crystals! There also appears to be some tiny micro acanthite crystals. Any ruby silvers from Nevada are rarely if ever offered and if they are offered, the specimens usually consist of prices that the average collector could never afford. The proustite in this specimen has been kept in the dark so that it keeps its ruby red color. If exposed to light for several hours, it will quickly lose its color and become dark, eventually completely black. In close association with the silver sulfosalts are small scattered patches of rhodochrosite which is super neat! I love it when rhodochrosite is associated with silver ores! The specimen also has a manganese staining.
